Posteo is a German e-mail service provider launched in 2009. They advertise a no-bullshit, green and private service.

Pros:

  • Really cheap.
  • Easy registration.
  • Nice interface.
    • More optional themes available in settings.
  • No ads at all.
  • Proper licensing on website.
  • Goodies on top of the e-mail account.
    • Calendars (up to 3 for free, then 0.1€ a month).
    • E-mail aliases (up to 2 for free, then 0.1€ a month).
    • Migration service for existing accounts.
    • E-mail collector feature which will bridge your old e-mail for three months to ease the migration.

Cons:

  • Custom domains not available.
    • Though not a dealbreaker for me.

So far, using Posteo has been a breeze. Considering how cheap the service is, I’m amazed at the offering. I have the e-mails, contact book and calendar all synced to my Thunderbird installation on my main computer.

For sending and receiving, I’m still relying heavily on Iki, which is my permanent alias; but as a service, Posteo definitely does the job.
